Benefits of Light Therapy
Light Emitting Diode (LED) Light Therapy, also known as low-level light therapy or phototherapy, is a non-invasive and painless treatment that can address various musculoskeletal and skin conditions. Research shows that LED Light Therapy increases blood circulation, decreases pain and inflammation, and promotes healing, tissue repair, and regeneration. Many practitioners, including Acupuncturists, Dermatologists, and Estheticians, have added this therapy to their treatments for more potent and lasting results.
Initially developed by NASA to promote healing to injured astronauts, the Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology applies specific wavelengths of light to target an area for various therapeutic benefits. The device is FDA-cleared, non-invasive, drug-free, and cost-effective for many conditions.
How it works
In a nutshell, cells absorb and transform particles of light into energy, resulting in increased production of tissue repair. Light energy is measured in nanometers and, depending on the wavelength, will penetrate to a certain depth for healing and restoration.
Blue light (465nm), which has the shortest wavelength, targets superficial tissue (epidermal layer) and helps with skin conditions such as acne and facial rejuvenation. Evidence-based research has proven blue light kills P.acnes bacteria to reduce acne break-outs.
Red light (640nm) penetrates the dermal layer, boosts collagen and elastin production, and complements facial rejuvenation treatment protocols for faster and longer-lasting results.
Near-infrared (880nm) is the longest wavelength, which provides tissue repair and pain relief and is an excellent option for muscle and joint pain, stiffness, and arthritis.
